President Quezon signs the charter of Bacolod City on June 18, 1938
While most people are aware of the Bacolod MassKara Festival being held on the anniversary of the city's Inauguration Day, the date on which Bacolod was actually "born" was June 18, 1938.

Bacolod’s Charter was signed by the president of the Commonwealth – Manuel L. Quezon on June 18, 1938. Commonwealth Act 326, the law creating Bacolod as a City was principally authored by Assemblyman Pedro Hernaez, then representative of the 2nd District of the Province of Negros Occidental. A charter day is like a birthday – it is the day the city was born.

It was only in 2008, that then City Councilor, Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue facilitated in a simple ceremony, the first ever honoring of June 18 as the anniversary of the charter.  Bacolod City was 70 years old then.
Let us honor June 18 while still celebrating October 19 as the anniversary of its inauguration in the year 1939.
